Drone Flight Video
This video, shot in my junior year of high school, provides an excellent example of the capabilities of my drone, an aerial vehicle of my own design. It can fly at a maximum of 35 mph, getting a typical flight time of around 20 minutes. I have taken my quadcopter to 600 feet of altitude and one kilometer of range, though it is capable of much more. I have since updated the design slightly from the version seen in this video, modifying a GoPro housing to fit within the tight constraints of the brushless gimbal (I learned the hard way that such protection is necessary in the event of a crash). This crash, while fatal to my first camera, did not damage the rest of the frame due to its stiff, robust design. My quadcopter is still in excellent functional condition, taking better video than before due to its newer camera. This iteration, called the Mark VII, is a culmination of experience from all of my previous prototypes. My drone has been my most compelling and time-consuming project and this refined version has been years in the making.
